Roma steers hit 230c/kg

A total of 4620 head were yarded at Roma’s Store Sale on Tuesday. Light weight steers were dearer in price, while heavy feeder weight steers struggled to maintain last week’s rates due to recent volatility in grain market prices. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topped at 188c/kg and averaged 173c/kg (-3), while steers in the 350-400kg range reached 207c/kg and averaged 174c/kg (U/C) and steers in the 280-350kg range reached 223c/kg and averaged 196c/kg (+5). Weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 230c/kg and averaged 211c/kg (+4), while weaners under 220kg topped at 226c/kg and averaged 204c/kg (-1). Maranoa Downs Grazing Co, Maranoa Downs, Mitchell, sold Droughtmaster-cross steers to 226c/kg and averaged 220c for 258kg to make $567/head. They also sold Charolais-cross heifers to 194c for 256kg to return $498. Springfield Investments, Stockade, Tambo, sold Santa steers to 226c for 210kg to make $477. The Bain family, Mt Eden, Roma, sold Angus-cross steers to 220c and averaged 215c for 249kg to return $535. The Evans family, The Block, Injune, sold Brangus steers to 216c for 320kg to make $691. The Allan family, Waroonga, Mitchell, sold Santa-cross steers to 216c for 295kg to return $639. The Watson family, Highview, Mitchell, sold Charolais-cross steers to 212c for 300kg to make $637. They also sold Charolais-cross heifers to 190c and averaged 189c for 270kg to return $510. The Beitz family, Middleridge, Amby, sold Santa-cross steers to 202c for 335kg to make $677. Danny Wells, Alongamoor, Condamine, sold Charolais-cross steers to 199c for 365kg to return $728. The Andrews family, Nardu, Roma, sold Romagnola-cross steers to 197c and averaged 192c for 343kg to make $660.  The Clark family, Combanning, Charleville, sold Santa-cross steers to 176c for 484kg to return $853. Heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 196c and averaged 166c (+7). Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 196c/kg and averaged 167c/kg (+2). Heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 202c/kg and averaged 191c/kg (-1), while heifers under 220kg topped at 201c/kg and averaged 193c/kg (-3). The Gobbert family, Amboola, Mitchell, sold Droughtmaster heifers 202c for 230kg to make $466. The Heinemann family, Cungela, Charleville, sold Charolais-cross heifers to 195c for 263kg to return $514. The Tite family, Mt Abundance, Roma, sold Brahman-cross heifers to 188c for 235kg to make $443. A large line of Brahman-cross PTIC cows from Northern Queensland sold open auction to $745/head and averaged $591. Cows over 500kg hit 153c and averaged 146c (+9), while cows 400-500kg topped at 166c and averaged 131c (+1). Cows in the 300-400kg range made 135c and averaged 116c (-5). Cows and calves sold to $795 and averaged $673/unit. Bulls up to 400kg reached 186c to average 151c (-17).
